Kashan Rugs, Carpet, & Area Rugs
Kashan is an important city in central
Iran, which has a history of carpet weaving that dates back to the 16th
century. Kashan rugs are categorized amongst the finest of the Persian
rugs do to there very high quality wool, very fine weaving and beautiful
colors and designs. Many kashan rugs have been put on display in major
museums around the world, some of these piece date back to the 16th
or 17th century when Kashan was given one of the first Royal
workshops. Kashan has become one of the main centres responsible for the
legend of the Persian rug. The design of Kashan rugs consist of a field
generally decorated with a central medallion which terminates at the upper
and lower ends in the flowering coronets. The rest of the field is
closely decorated with the flowers and vine tendrils. In the four
quarters a richly decorated band outlines a motif which recalls the
designs and colors of the central medallion. Traditional theme colors are
reds and blues, but recently Kashans have been woven in beige,
grayish-blue, and olive green for the international market. Kashan rugs
materials usually consist of exceptional quality wool and with silk
outlining the beautiful motifs.
